Lights, Camera, Therapy!

Lights, Camera, Therapy!

October 26, 2023

Hey all, Ian here. This week I really wanted to go over physical therapy with you. You must be on our website for a reason, right? Perhaps you’re interested in physical therapy, or are trying to find out if physical therapy is right for you. Or perhaps you’ve already received some sort of treatment in the past, but now you’re wondering if the pain you’re currently experiencing is treated by physical therapy. In this article, I will cover all aspects of physical therapy and what it can do for you.

First, for those of you who don’t know, I will start by answering what exactly physical therapy is. Physical therapy is an exercise treatment method aimed to cure or treat certain physical, cardiopulmonary, and neurological ailments through various exercises and stretches. Physical therapy’s primary goal is to bring the patient back to a pain-free state, where one can get through their day with next to no difficulties. Did you know that roughly 90 percent of Americans are currently living with some form of pain? Primary examples include sports injuries, arthritis, sprains, strains, and headaches, just to name a few. With physical therapy, we can make you part of that 10 percent and get you back to living a pain-free life.

Physical therapy is a rather old practice. Dating back to circa 460 BC, early practitioners Hippocrates and Galenus were advocating massage, manual therapy techniques, and hydrotherapy to treat patients. Fast forward to World War I, where people were specially trained in pain management and physical therapy to work with and restore physical function to injured soldiers. In fact, the first school of physical therapy was established at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. following the outbreak of WWI. In 1924, the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation promoted the field by touting that physical therapy was a treatment for polio. Add polio to the list of things that physical therapy can help you with! Though this ailment is uncommon these days, it’s something to spew out to your friends at the next party or get-together. With your pains, aches, sore muscles, and even your dizziness, we can be your one stop shop to better health. I touched base in my direct access blog last week that you can come straight to us and we will get you in within 24 hours. With the new Direct Access, we can help you avoid cost of your primary physician, and your orthopedic specialist. We are your orthopedic specialists.

Why Robbins’ Rehabilitation?

Robbins Rehabilitation is family owned and operated by twin brothers Todd and Travis Robbins. Unlike large rehab centers that dominate the Lehigh Valley, you will get the personal attention that your condition requires. All too often, we hear a story similar to this from our patients:

” I went to physical therapy before and it did nothing to help me. Every time that I went I saw a different person, and I only saw the physical therapist once! All of my other treatments were with assistants or aides and even then I was just doing exercises on my own in a corner of their clinic. They didn’t even put their hands on me!”

At Robbins’, all of our PTs are manually trained, and each and every time you come in to see us it will be the same physical therapist that you’ve come to bond with. We believe the connection you make with your physical therapist is as important as the treatment you receive from us.

So, there you have it. If you didn’t know that this is what physical therapy is all about, our hope is that you learned and took something with you from this article. Physical therapy is an excellent aid that can help you in the long run as you age, and has become a primary focus regarding preventive medicine. And lets be honest, we all could use more preventive medicine. Among the 19 developed nations, we rank dead last in preventive medicine. Our goal is to change that, and help people live longer, healthier lives through physical therapy. Make sure you come back and check out our blog next week on Self Motivation!
