During a physical therapy examination, your therapist will perform tests to rule in or rule out causes of your pain, no matter what body part is bothering you. There are dozens of knee pain special tests, but here are a few that you can perform on yourself at home.
Watch this video showing the self-tests you can do at home to discover the cause of your knee pain.
Thessaly’s Test

Negative test: The test is negative if your knee pain does not get any worse with rotation.
Positive test: The test is positive if your pain is reproduced with rotation.
What does a positive test mean?
The test is considered positive for a meniscus tear if you experience medial or lateral joint line discomfort. You may also get “locking” or “catching” in the knee.
Medial Knee Dive Test

Negative test: The test is negative if your knee does not cave inward.
Positive test: The test is positive if your knee caves inward and has pain
What does a positive test mean?
The Medial Knee Dive Test does not test for any specific injury or diagnosis. This test is looking for proximal and lower kinetic chain weakness and poor control. If the test is positive, it can indicate the mechanical problem behind a meniscus, ligament or patellofemoral issue.
