Did you know there are six kinds of Stress?
If you are stressed out, please raise your hand. Okay you can all set them down now. Both of them. I know that most people are stressed out and everybody for different reasons, but this is why it is so critical to deal with those stressors. In this series we will first identify many of the forms of stress in our life both known and unknown.
Physical Stress
Exercise is good for you right? Well the answer is it depends. If you are so stressed out that you barely have time to sleep then this physical stressor may not be best for you at the time. Speaking of sleep we all need to remember that physical repair occurs from 10pm to 2am. This means if the physical body is to repair properly we must sleep well during these times.
Chemical Stress
This is one that is often overlooked. Sure we know about harsh cleaners, but what else. Any artificial fragrances, carpets, paint, soaps and skin products, clothing, detergents, etc. The list is really endless.
Psychological/Mental Stress
No more “stinkin thinkin.” I have read that between 65% and 90% of our 65,000 daily thoughts are negative. That can be a whole lot of stress.
Nutritional Stress
Eating any commercially raised foodstuff will stress out the body. If it is a fruit or vegetable it will be the pesticides, rodenticides, fungicides, etc. that are sprayed upon it as well as the lack of minerals in the soil. The animals are fed the leftover grain not given to humans, given antibiotics and live often in their own feces. I feel organic and grass-fed is the way to go.
Thermal Stress
This one is simple. If you are hot or cold, your body is under stress. Make sure to dress appropriately. Electromagnetic Stress Cell phones and computers and TVs, OH MY! Well Dorothy had it right even back then. These are all forms of electromagnetic stress. Sure it can be hard to do without them in today’s society, but just how much do we need them. According to Neilson numbers the average American watches 34 hours of live and 3-6 hours of recorded television weekly. That’s a full-time job and who wouldn’t be stressed out with another job. This doesn’t take into account cell phone and computer usage or artificial lighting. Now take all of these stressors that you may have and lump them all into one. The body on the cellular level cannot distinguish one from another. If you are sitting in traffic and late for an important meeting or you just ran five miles, the body is going to see them both as one thing…stress. In part two we will discuss how to deal with stress.
